Learning Labs: Digital Gaming

Wow!  Today we had our second teen hangout with a visit from our first adult advisor, Mike from Pixel Academy.

He was here to show us some super cool 3D modeling software he uses to create digital video games.  The platform is pretty complicated but the teens worked hard to grasp the coding aspect of the process.

They were excited about the notin of creating a real game, and the engagement level was palpable throughout the entire 3 hours of the hangout!

We were pleased with Mike’s facilitation and given the reaction a couple of the teens had we have a feeling we will be working with 3D modeling and game design in future projects and teen hangouts!

The Maker Space is a learning environment where children, teens, adults and families can tinker, design, and create together.

In our workshops we use real tools to make real things and re-use everyday materials in exciting ways. From woodworking and plaster casting to electronics and 3D printing, we encourage experimentation, open-ended exploration, and believe that making mistakes is a great way to learn.

Our workshops are hands on and can get messy, so when you come to a class, don't wear your favorite shirt!
